Design advertisements according to specifications of the client to a production deadline and lay out advertisement and/ or editorial pages for the newspapers to deadline. Check completed advertisements from own marketing department and agencies.
•Three-year Diploma with certified graphic design background and at least 2 years’ experience in newspaper and advertisement design
•Grade 12 plus 1 year experience in design (preferred newspaper/ advertising) for a junior position or at least 4 years’ experience in design (preferred newspaper/ advertising) for a senior position.
•Have experience and sound knowledge of standard layout programmes, for example the Adobe Creative Suite (required version 3. Preferred version 5 and up) or Quark X Press (version 7 and up), and preflight software such as Enfocus Pitstop Pro.
•Design and layout advertisements to clients’ satisfaction and newspaper’s style guide to ensure they are fit to print and contribute to the overall look and feel of the product.
•Make use of technical skills such as colour mixing and font management to ensure all advertisements can be processed at Newsprint
•Calibrate and control images to ensure print-ready quality
•Archive advertisements and logos in accordance to NMH standards to ensure well-kept, easy-to-access archive of all advertisements and logos
•Analyse own work, by checking advertisements and workflow at all times to ensure that the best quality and approved advertisements are published in the newspaper
•Pre-flight PDF advertisements with, for example, Enfocus Pitstop Pro to ensure all material from marketing department and agencies can be processed at Newsprint CTP
•Take care of repeat advertisements to ensure the right advertisements are placed into the system
•Support, assist and advise colleagues, marketing department and agencies to improve PDF handling of advertisements ad to maintain advertisement quality.
•Ensure that all advertisements are flawless, approved and correct for print
•Knowledge of colour mixing and typographical skills
•Calibration and quality control of images
•Maintaining and keeping the advertising archive up to date
•Continuous tracking of advertisement flow and progress
•Lay-out (editorial) pages
•Monitor, check and correct advertisements for marketing departments and agencies
•Handles repeat advertisement system
•Support and advise clients and agencies through the marketing department
